Visa
|
Most foreigners need a visa before travelling to Suriname. Travellers who live in Europe can obtain a visa from the Surinamese consulate in Amsterdam. Travellers who do not live in Europe have to contact
the nearest diplomatic mission of Suriname in their region. The website of the Surinamese consulate has been redesigned, but
the information is still only available in Dutch. The online visa application form however is also available in English.
Procedure
- You can apply for a visa 6 weeks to 1 day before the day of departure.
- Go to the online visa application form.
- Fill in the form completely, according the data on your passport.
- Print and sign the form.
- The online form is kept in the computer of the consulate for only 10 calendar days.
Within this time your printed and signed form, passport and colour picture must be received by the consulate.
You can go to the consulate in Amsterdam with the printed form by your self, or you can send your application a.s.p. by snail-mail. You can also contact a Dutch visa service like V&V Visumdienst
and ask them to handle the application for you.
Documents needed
1. a printed and signed visa application form.
2. a passport, which must be valid for at least 6 months after arriving
in Suriname.
3. a recent colour picture (passport photograph 3x4).
You can reach the consulate in Amsterdam easily by public transport
from the centre of Amsterdam, the main railway stations and Schiphol Airport (see directions below). So if you can afford to stay in Amsterdam for 1 or 2 nights, the easiest way for Europeans to obtain a visa, is to go to the consulate yourself. During your stay in Amsterdam you can already get into the mood for your trip, by visiting the colourful markets of Amsterdam, Surinamese eateries, Surinamese shops and jewelleries.
- The visa office is open: Monday to Friday between 09.00 and 12:00. If you do not have internet access, there are terminals available in the waiting room.
- You pay cash
at the office window. Dutch people can use a debit-card.
- If there are no objections (which is likely), you can wait for your visa in the waiting room.
- if you do not have a European passport it might take 2 days to 2 weeks for your visa to be issued.
